Following on from my earlier article on the Western Harbour Malmo, here is a new description of Curitiba, Brazil.
As Cities for People go, Curitiba stands as a shining example.
3 time Mayor of Curitiba Jaime Lerner was first appointed in 1971. Jaime Lerner believed that Curitiba should be a city for people, not for cars. And his belief made a tremendous difference to the future of the city.
His philosophy has led to a 30% reduction in car use, even though the population has trebled. The number of parks has increased from 1 major park to over 25 of them. And Curitiba now has the largest, downtown pedestrianised shopping area in the World.

So what is Curitiba’s secret?
I’ll look to expand the article soon, to give my ideas of how Curitiba made it happen.
In the meantime, please let me know what you think.
