About Cities for People

Hello, and thank you for visiting.

You can find ideas on this website about cities for people - what they are, how you make them, what to build and how you can help. You will also find stories of cities that have become great places for people.

I hope you find this interesting and useful, so please have a look around and make yourself at home. And please contact me about anything.

Michael O'Hare - About me

Hello, my name's Michael O'Hare and I've been interested in the idea of sustainability since taking a course on renewable energy a long, long, long time ago in my student days at Bristol University.

Today, I work in the energy industry for E.ON. From 2007 to 2009 E.ON gave me the great opportunity of living in Malmo, Sweden and working in their district heating business. I led the development of a new sustainable city concept with Mora, a town in Sweden that is home to the World's largest cross-country ski race, Vasaloppet.

The concept involves the municipality and E.ON collaborating to make the city more sustainable, while making good business. It was a great success and E.ON are now using a similar concept in the city of Norrköping.

The experience I had living Sweden (especially working with fantastic colleagues in Malmo and Mora) helped inspire me to create this website.

Me in the Western Harbour, Malmo

A little more personally, I'm very happily married to my wonderful wife Arrti who has helped and supported me so much in designing this site.

In my spare time I like running and am trying to learn card magic. Not very successfully, perhaps you could give me a hint or two?

Why citiesforpeople.net?

Good question. This is my first web site and I want to learn about making websites and increasing my knowledge of sustainable cities.

Most of all, I hope you find the site interesting and useful. Please, let me know what you think. Whether your comments are good or bad I'd love to hear from you.
